What is a Doula? Doula Services Mehndi Belly Casting Links |
Before Labor I prefer to meet with you and your
partner at least once before labor. This
prenatal visit allows us to become acquainted, to explore and discuss your
priorities, fears and concerns about labor, and to plan how we might work best
together. During this meeting I will
want to become familiar with your birth plan, including your preferences for
managing your labor and the use of pain medications. I also would like to know how you foresee
yourself coping with pain and fatigue, and how you and your partner anticipate
working together during labor. We may decide to plan additional
meetings before labor, but if not we will remain in touch by telephone in the
last few weeks of your pregnancy. I am
available to you to answer questions and provide support during these last
weeks of your pregnancy as well. After the baby is born I usually remain with you for one to
two hours after the baby is born, until you are comfortable and your family is
ready for quiet time together. I can
also help with initial breastfeeding, if necessary. I am available for phone contact to
answer questions about the birth or your baby.
I would also like to get together with you about two to three weeks
after you baby’s birth to see how you are doing, to review the birth, to admire
your baby, and to get feedback from you about my role. What I do not do As a doula, I do not: ·
Perform
clinical tasks, such as blood pressure, fetal heart checks, vaginal exams, and
others. I am there to provide physical
comfort, emotional and informational support, and advocacy in a non-clinical
role. ·
Make
decisions for you. I will help you get
the information necessary to make an informed decision. I will also remind you if there is a
departure from your birth plan. ·
Speak
to the staff instead of you regarding matters where decisions are being
made. I will discuss your concerns with
you and suggest options, but you or your partner will speak on your behalf to
the clinical staff. |
